Square Enix has canceled development on Gun Loco, a self-described “sprint-action shooter” slated for an exclusive release on the Xbox 360. Why? We're not entirely sure. Hazarding a guess, we'd say it was something to do with that damn bunny mask. Those things are always messing shit up.

The announcement was posted today to Square Enix's Japanese site. Andriasang was kind enough to translate, but the message gave no reason for the cancellation.
First announced at Gamescom last August, Gun Loco was billed as a frenetic third-person shooter in which psychopathic criminals are dropped onto a remote planet for a free-for-all killing spree. Gameplay consisted of taking down opponents while in a constant state of motion, using a mix of on-the-run tactics and environmental assists to stick it to other locos. Online, the game was reported to feature up to 12 player matches.
It's always hit or miss when Square Enix ventures outside its RPG forte. This, however, looked like it could have been a hit due to its unique mechanics and the absurdist character designs provided by action figure maker Kenny Wong, who also supplied the surreal Brothersworker dolls on Adult Swim. It also looked different. And different is good. Creepy as hell, yes, but good.
