We know that the Nintendo Wii can be especially popular with casual gamers. But it can also be a useful tool for drug smugglers. In a report from the Associated Press, U.S. Customs and Border Protection shared details on some of the more unusual methods used by drug smugglers trying to hide their goods.
Wii Fit boards and controllers seem to be particularly popular. Four pounds of heroin were found recently inside the fitness peripheral at JFK International Airport. A few weeks ago, a Wii Fit board packed with cocaine was seized at Newark Liberty International Airport.

According to John Saleh of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the smugglers are just using the same tricks with different packaging. “There are no new trends, but new variations to the old ones,” he explains. It’s unclear as to how many smugglers make it past security at airports, but according to Saleh, the seizure rate for drugs continues to rise every year.
