The Tekken series is getting the CGI cinematic treatment. During Namco Bandai's Level Up conference in Dubai, the studio graced its audience with a trailer for Tekken: Blood Vengeance, a 3D animated film featuring demure schoolgirls, deadly mechs, flying pandas and a whack of Tekken characters engaged in balls-to-wall death matches. True, we really have no idea what the hell this movie is about, but damned if doesn't look badass.
Tekken: Blood Vengeance will hit theaters by way of Digital Frontier, the producers behind Resident Evil: Degeneration. The film is written by Dai Sato of Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex fame, and directed by Youichi Mouri, the talent behind Tekken 5 and 6's opening CGI cinematics.
Tekken's executive producer Katsuhiro Harada wouldn't part with specific plot details, but he did say the film will follow established Tekken canon, and tell a story which takes place between Tekken 5 and Tekken 6. He also revealed the movie was being made in close consultation with the Tekken development team, and that it will employ many of the game's original voice actors.
Tekken: Blood Vengeance is being released with English and Japanese voice-overs, and is scheduled to receive a theatrical run this summer. Namco promises to divulge more about the project at E3.
