Hell freezes, pig cops fly and Duke Nukem Forever goes gold (Duke Nukem Forever)

2K Games and Gearbox Software has announced that Duke Nukem Forever has “gone gold” and is ready for retailers as the long-awaited sequel’s release draws nearer. Setting a new standard for the term, “development hell,” Duke Nukem Forever was first announced in 1997. “Always bet on Duke, I did,” says Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford. “I bet on all of the developers who have ever been a part of this legendary project and I bet that none of us want to live in a world without Duke,” continues Pitchford.

Needless to say, Pitchford is ecstatic – and why shouldn’t he be? Duke Nukem Forever is complete! The sequel that no one thought would see the light of day has survived numerous delays and a lawsuit filed by publisher Take-Two Interactive against 3D Realms before Gearbox Software took over as developer for the project.

Duke Nukem Forever is scheduled for an international release on June 10 with a June 14 release set for North America. Those who “bet on Duke” and pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever or purchased the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition will get access to the pre-release demo releasing on June 3.
