Is the mediocre launch lineup for the Nintendo 3DS bringing you down? Perhaps you’d be better off replaying the best-of-the-best from Nintendo’s 16-bit era with the SupaBoy, a SNES handheld emulator scheduled to release this summer. The device sports a 3.5” LCD screen and is designed to emulate the feel of a SNES controller with the traditional D-pad, four face buttons, and two shoulder buttons.
Developed by Hyperkin, the SupaBoy includes video/audio out options so you can hook it up to a regular television. It also has two seven-pin ports on the front for traditional wired controllers, which means you could enjoy two-player games with a friend on your television. In addition, the SupaBoy will support peripheral controllers, like the Super Scope and Super Multitap. It will be compatible with the Mario Paint Mouse.

According to Hyperkin, the SupaBoy has been tested for compatibility with the following SNES titles: Super Mario RPG, Starfox, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Zelda (we assume they’re talking about A Link to the Past), and Noah’s Ark 3D. Although it may be compatible with European cartridges, Hyperkin has not tested PAL cartridges for compatibility with the SupaBoy.
The SupaBoy is scheduled to launch this summer with a suggested retail price of $79.99. In the meantime, you can head to Hyperkin’s product page for a more detailed list of the SupaBoy’s technical specs.
