Nintendo working with Best Buy for exclusive 3DS downloads (Nintendo 3DS)

After a slow start, it looks like the 3DS will finally get into the fast lane with regards to the handheld’s internet capabilities. Not only will the 3DS eShop launch June 6 (the first day of E3), but now Nintendo has announced that on the following day it’ll begin a new partnership with big box retailer Best Buy to offer exclusive DLC for the 3DS.

On June 7 the two industry giants will team up to start offering downloads that include a feature called SpotPass, which perhaps means a way of getting content as simply as you meet another player in StreetPass. They promise “gaming extras and movie trailers” for the device, and other “exclusive offers.” This sounds similar to previous work Nintendo has done with GameStop, which offered DS demos and exclusive Pokemon downloads, and similar Pokemon-related offers with Toys"R"Us. Of course this could be a bit bigger, though it remains to be seen if this will be something as cool as exclusive Mario levels or a fancy demo, or as lame as a 3D film trailer and Nintendogs hats.
