Alter your Holiday plans immediately folks, because something unsurprising and wholly predictable has happened: Mass Effect 3 has been delayed! BioWare today confirmed via their Facebook that Mass Effect 3 has been pushed to early 2012. Here’s the official announcement:
"Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.”
- Casey Hudson, Executive Producer Mass Effect series
When you think about it, this is hardly surprising. BioWare isn’t a small company, but shipping ME3 in the same year as Dragon Age II and Star Wars: The Old Republic, an MMO, is quite a lot to expect. The finale to their epic sci-fi trilogy is going to be huge, so it’s understandable the team wants to get it right. Besides, Mass Effect 2 came out during January and sold like crazy, demonstrating BioWare doesn’t need a fall release to be successful. Sure this is sad news, but fall 2011 is stacked as it is, so don’t cry too hard.
On a final, personal note, I want to make it clear that it was I, Henry Gilbert who first said in the GamesRadar offices that it wasn’t coming out in 2011. When everyone else pushed it to #1 on our 100 most anticipated games of 2011 I was all like, “it’s not happening guys, make Batman #1, that'll actually come out this year.” But they all refused to accept such an obvious likelihood. Sure some, like Mikel, eventually got on the bandwagon, but others chose to turn away from the light. But who's laughing now, huh? Who's laughing now?
Anyway, since ME3 and Last Guardian are gone from 2011, what’s your new most anticipated game of 2011?
