Sony has revealed that the PlayStation Network has raised more than 129.7 yen to donate to various charities providing disaster relief to Japan for the earthquake earlier this year. That's about $1.5 million dollars or £1.01 million pounds. PSN users who donated also received a special disaster relief theme. It looks like this:
Sony also broke down how different territories donated, but remember charity isn't a competition. Europe's PSN users offered the most assistance by generating $877,591 or £538,122. North Americans gave $425,576 or £260,955. Asian countries gave $27,189 or £16,673 and the Japanese donated $296,388 or £181,751. Obviously if it had been a competition, Europe won.
The money went to the American Red Cross, the British Red Cross for Europe and the Red Feather Community Chest Movement for Japan and Asia. You can still donate over PSN, or if you're willing to to go without the exclusive theme, it's just as good to give directly to charities.
